Postdoctoral and Research Associate Positions Available
The Center for Genomic Sciences (CGS) at Allegheny-Singer Research Institute (ASRI) has multiple NIH-funded positions available for recent PhD graduates interested in pursuing exciting multidisciplinary research opportunities in a cooperative scientific setting. Successful applicants will work in a rich basic research environment located within a renowned clinical care facility. A unique blend of basic scientists and clinicians, the CGS faculty are all federally funded and include PhDs, MDs, and MD/PhDs. Postdocs will receive career development mentoring, learn grant writing skills, and have an opportunity for advancement.
Projects include: gene regulation during scarless wound healing; the molecular mechanisms of bacterial biofilm pathogenesis; host-pathogen interactions; human disease gene mapping, cloning, and modeling; and protein engineering for MEMs development for the production of self-diagnosing, self treating medical device implants. CGS pursues these projects using multiple integrated high throughput 4th generation robotic systems to accomplish: colony picking, plasmid purification; construction and analysis of DNA microarrays, SNP genotyping (Illumina Bead Station), robotic reaction set up and purification, capillary DNA sequencing and microsatellite analyses, genomic and cDNA library construction and arraying, Q-RT-PCR, SS-RT-PCR. Additional methodologies include RACE, bacterial strain construction, animal models, tissue culture, correlation of transcriptome analyses with proteomics, and CLSM and epifluorescent microscopic imaging. The systems are all connected by a dedicated LAN operated by a full time professional bioinformatics group.
CGS receives over $2.5 million annually in grant support, and has recently completed a very successful capital campaign to upgrade all of the research facilities, including the construction of a Molecular Imaging Facility that houses two state-of-the-art Leica CLSMs directed by Dr. Paul Stoodley.
Excellent salary/benefits available. Send CV, 2 first author publications, and 3 letters of reference to Garth D. Ehrlich, Ph.D., Executive Director, Center for Genomic Sciences, ASRI, 320 East North Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. We regret that we cannot support J1 visas.
